On this page you can see the inmates of specialized Orphan's Home #39 for children with poor eyesight. Children from all over Siberia come to this cosy Orphan's Home and stay here for many years. The Home teachers have become second parents for these children, who talk about their care with particular cordiality and trembling.

Almost none of these children have got parents.

When they are asked about their cherished dream, they all say, 'I want to have my eyes cured'...

Katya Peshekhonova

13 years old
Katya wants to be a hairdresser. She is keen on drawing and plays the accordion. The girl reads much, especially adventurous books. Katya is impetuous but comes round very quickly. She has a lovely smile and a tender voice. The teachers point out that she is conscientious and hard-working.

Katya's parents have been deprived of their parental rights; she is being brought up by her grandmother.

Katya has congenital ptosis and strabismus. She's had her eyes operated on 5 times, but she needs extra operations and serious drug therapy.

Julia Kolchanova

Yulya dreams of a designer's profession. In all her free time she draws new models of women's dresses. Her faourite colour is pink, but she is going to be very careful using it in her future models. Yulya is a very lively and merry girl; she often smiles and tells funny stories. In her teachers' opinion Yulya is kindhearted but she feels shy because of a pigmented nevus on her face. She has been studying here since 2001 when she was in the first grade.

Yulya's mother had a car accident and now she is bedridden. Yulya's father is a simple worker.

Besides eyesight problems Yulya has thigh-bone cancer. She was operated on but rehabilitation period was going very hard. She needs drug therapy.

When asked about her cherished dream Yulya answers embarrassingly, 'To remove a nevus from my face'.

Despite his young age Sergey gives the impression of being a person knowing exactly what they want in life. He wants to become a builder and to build skyscrapers just like in the USA. Sergey is keen on Maths and chess. He regularly wins prizes in chess tournaments. Sergey is calm, kindhearted and hard-working. He considers his mother his only true friend. If his American friends came to see him, he would definitely ask them about TV programmes broadcast in America and what the skyscrapers are like there. In his return he would tell them how nice it is to live in Russia.

Sergey's mother works in a post office. He's got no father. He lives together with his mother in a hostel.

Sergey has been disabled since his childhood. He has congenital retina pathology (myopia, microphthalmia, coloboma, residual eyesight). He needs permanent drug therapy or he is threatened with complete loss of eyesight.

Vika Kildysheva

Vika dreams to become a masseuse. Her favourite book is 'Legends about mothers'. This book tells us how to love and take care of a mother, not to forget to do something good to her and to thank her for everything. She likes going for a walk with her friends who tell her what they see. If she met Americans, she would certainly ask them about the blind who live in America and would tell them about her school, friends and teachers. Calm, shy and kindhearted Vika dreams to get over her disease and see something with her own eyes.

Vika is being brought up by her mother. There are four children in their family. Their father has left them.

The girl has congenital blindness and only one eye. Her face is changing its form. She's been a 1st group eyesight invalid since her childhood. She needs an operation and an artificial eye.

Alina Khatoyan

Alina's cherished dream is to become a doctor. The teachers consider her a real helper as she is always ready to give the juniors and teachers a hand. Her favourite subject is Maths. She also likes Armenian and oriental music. Alina really appreciates her teacher who tells many interesting stories.

Alina is from a poor family of refugees. She has inherited her disease from her mother. There's a 3-year-old child with the same diagnosis in the family.

The girl has Morphan's syndrome, congenital cataract of both eyes, pseudophakia. She is a 1st group eyesight invalid. She needs an operation and constant drug therapy.

German Khatoyan

In all his free time German draws and goes to an art school. He has a dream to become an artist. He enjoys listening to Russian and Armenian folk songs. He believes that he is a kind person, tries to help other people and does everything what the elders ask him to do. According to his teachers German is an active, kindhearted and friendly child getting only good and excellent marks.

German as well as his sister Alina is a refugee, but a citizen of Russia. They have inherited their disease from their mother. There's a 3-year-old child with the same diagnosis in the family.

The boy has Morphan's syndrome, congenital cataract of both eyes, pseudophakia. He is a 1st group eyesight invalid. He needs an operation and constant drug therapy.

Angela Kovrigina

15 years old
Angela's favorite subject is English. She dreams to finish school successfully, to enter Teachers' Training University, to become a teacher and to come back here to teach English. She likes playing cognitive games with the juniors and reading books to them. Angela reads much. She likes Mark Twan and Joanne Rowling. She goes to drama school. According to the teachers she is a kind, friendly and responsible girl.

Angela's parents died. She's being brought up by a foster mother. She started going to school #39 in 1999 when she was in the first grade.

The girl has glaucoma, retinal detachment. In September 2006 she had her left eye operated on twice for lens replacement, but it won't seize. Angela needs maintenance drug therapy.

Ruslan Eroshkin

Ruslan Eroshkin
17 years old
Ruslan is a senior. After finishing school he wants to train for a cook. He likes gadgets, watching football and hockey. He plays basketball and volleyball. Ruslan likes listening to such bands as Green Day and Rammstein.

The boy is an orphan. He arrived at the school from Maslyaninsky Orphan's Home in 2000.

Ruslan has congenital operated myopia of both eyes. His eyesight is -15, -16,5. In April 2005 he had his retina operated on in MNTK 'Eye microsurgery'. He needs optical correction, special glasses, courses of drug therapy twice a year, physiotherapy, reflex therapy, pleoptics.

Natalia Aleksandrova

Natasha dreams to become a lawyer and is preparing for it seriously. She is the best pupil in her class, especially at social science lessons. She is keen on swimming and represents her school in competitions every year. Natasha is kind, respectful, hard-working and responsible. She knows that there's an interesting game baseball in America. They've tried to play it in their village.

Natasha lives with her mother in kolkhoz Vyuny of Kochenyovsky district.

The girl has hereditary lens degeneration, bronchial asthma and scoliosis. She takes her medicine for asthma every day. She also needs drug therapy for eyesight maintenance.
